Embocraft success stories
Embo Craft conducts skills training to develop unique craft products as an income generation project for community members throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal. These products are marketed through the center in Botha's Hill.
In 2013, due to the critical shortage of skilled workers in this country, and the sky rocketing unemployment rate, it became obvious that giving people skills was the best way to ensure they had a future. We were already offering sewing classes, and decided to add to this to welding classes. That same year, we purchased all the necessary equipment, and found a skilled trainer to conduct the classes.
Initially these were run in the Induna's rondavel, but this proved impractical, so everything was moved to Embo Craft. This is a non for profit organisation, specialising in skills training. In time carpentry classes were also commenced.
Now all the training is conducted there. The premises are secure, the standard of training offered is high, as is the reputation of the organisation.
The premises also include a shop where much of the produce is sold to the community.

Khulekani Irvin NyaoIn the past Khulekani began quantity surveying training and completed two years but due to financial restraints was unable to continue. He attended Embocraft Training Centre Woodwork Course graduating in February 2015. He has now been employed by Pailpack Plastics in a full time position as supervisor in maintanance dept.
He feels that the training he has had with Embocraft was a great help to him getting this position as he was able to produce his certificate of completion and his woodworking training will be a great help in his maintenance position. He has two children of his own and supports many other family members. He lives in the Embo Valley. |
Jubalani Sydney NtuliJabulani is 36 years old and lives in the Embo Reserve Area. In 2015 Jabulani attended a woodwork course at the Embocraft Arts & Crafts Centre. Having had the experience to learn new practical skills and being inspired by the things he learnt, he chose to sign up for a welding class in June 2015. In September 2015 Jabu and some friends, all former students at Khabazela High School in Embo, decided to build a new gate for the school to improve security. Their next aim is to renew the fencing around the school and to build new toilets for the students, since these are in a terrible condition. “We are hoping to work together with Embocraft Training Centre in this, by having them produce much needed things for Khabezela High School...”, he explains, hoping to give back more to his community and to improve the conditions at his previous school.
Jabu has since completed basic computer training at Embocraft Training Centre as well which will enable him to be more proficient in running his business in the future. |
